The BEmet Project

Emetophobia,
understood from the inside.

Resources, research and training for people living with emetophobia, their families, and the professionals who support them.

You decide how much space emetophobia takes up in your life.

The thinking behind BEmet

BEmet starts from the understanding that emetophobia is shaped by our relationships and felt in our bodies, and that change tends to work the same way.

A Note on Language

This site talks about emetophobia plainly, including the words around being unwell. Nothing autoplays or ambushes you, and there are no graphic images or videos. You choose what you read, and when.

Common Questions

What is emetophobia?

Emetophobia is the fear of being sick, or of vomiting. For many people it also takes in a fear of seeing others be sick, of feeling nauseous, or of situations where being sick feels more likely. It can shape food, travel, work, relationships and a great deal else, and it is far more common than most people realise.

What is BEmet?

BEmet is a specialist platform offering psychoeducational resources, CPD training, and support for people living with emetophobia, their families, and the professionals who work with them. It is not a therapy practice.

Who are the resources for?

Anyone whose life is touched by emetophobia. Whether you are living with it yourself, supporting a partner or someone you love through it, or a professional wanting to work with it more confidently. The resources are not region-specific and are designed to be accessible wherever you are.

Does BEmet offer therapy?

Not directly. If you are looking for emetophobia therapy, Caroline Cowley Counselling offers one-to-one emetophobia therapy online across the UK, or in person in Birmingham, for clients aged 16 and over. You can find out more at carolinecowley.uk.

Does BEmet use CBT or ERP?

The resources on The BEmet Project draw on a wide range of evidence-informed approaches, including cognitive and behavioural frameworks. There are many different ways to support people with emetophobia, and many different therapists who could help someone with emetophobia make changes in their life. Our approach focuses on the person and their experience, rather than a generic idea of the problem. What works is what fits you, your nervous system, and where you are right now.

Is this an emergency service?

No. BEmet is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate distress, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis helpline. A list of international resources is available at findahelpline.com.
